Established in December 1922 and beginning to enroll students in April 1923, Yunnan University is the earliest comprehensive university in West China, enjoying a history of over 80 years. As Yunnan’s sole key university of China, a university included in “211 Project” and a key project of West Development, it has about 20,000 full-time undergraduates, over 3,000 graduates, and 14,000 students of various kinds of adult education. After the listing of “Yunnan University Technology” in 1998, a variety of hi-tech industries with high technology content and strong creativity have been established in the fields of bio-technology, micro-biological fermentation engineering, new medicine development, and new material.
The university has established long-term relations of exchange and cooperation with nearly 100 universities and academies of America, Canada, Europe, Australia, Japan, and Taiwan.
