Kunming Botanical Garden is located in the north of Kunming, close to the Black Dragon Pool Park. The garden was established in 1938 and covers a total area of 44 hectares. There are nearly 6000 species of plants in the park, with 14 specialized botanical gardens, including Yunnan flowers, herbs, local Yunnan trees, and rare and endangered plants. Among these, the camellia garden is one of the oldest and most important.

The garden also conducts research on biodiversity and conservation. It is responsible for the conservation, research, and sustainable utilization of bio-resources of the Eastern Asiatic flora.
